WordPress User Roles

The below chart lists what permissions are assigned to each WordPress User Role (Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor, Subscriber) by default. Knowing what each Role can or cannot do is an important step in securing one’s WordPress site from unauthorized or unintended changes.

Some Pointers

  • Permission: “Delete any published posts”
    • Author Role: can only delete their own posts
  • Permission: “Edit or delete posts”
    • Author & Contributor Roles: can only delete their own posts
